番茄社区 the Project
The INNOVASAN project aims to improve income, food, and nutritional security among small family farmers in North Central Honduras, particularly targeting vulnerable groups affected by adverse climatic, economic, and health events. It responds to the compounded impacts of Tropical Storm Eta, Hurricane Iota, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated existing socioeconomic challenges.
Despite Honduras having low greenhouse gas emissions, it is disproportionately affected by climate change. The project aligns with the Reconstruction and Sustainable Development Plan (PRDS) of Honduras, focusing on economic revival and development. It supports the PRDS objectives, particularly addressing food security, nutrition, and resilience to climate change.
The project emphasizes the use of innovative technologies and digital tools to enhance livelihoods, with a focus on food availability, accessibility, consumption, and stability. It aims to increase resilience to climate change, integrate digital solutions, and strengthen local capacities for economic, social, and climatic recovery. Through ICT training and integration, the project seeks to improve access to information, financial services, and market intelligence, especially for women and youth in transitioning to sustainable agri-food systems.
